Being an Artist-in-Residence-in-Motherhood marked a dramatic turning point for me. I found an objective and playful space inside an all-consuming experience, developed a sense of real self-sufficiency and found renewed energy for my career. I was also able to connect with new audiences and collaborators and make work that has since travelled the work (while I couldn't!) and is now represented in permanent museum collections. I'm feel productive and committed to my work now, with a 2 and 4 year old, than I've ever been.

A self-directed, open-source artist residency to empower and inspire artists who are also mothers.

For many parents attending an artist residency is difficult. An Artist Residency in Motherhood is a unique, self-directed artist residency that any artist-parent can adapt to suit their own situation and interests.

An Artist Residency in Motherhood questions the traditional model of a residency that completely removes an artist from their everyday surroundings in order to find inspiration. It is situated instead inside the traditionally “inhospitable” environment of a family home, and reframes parenthood as a valuable site, rather than an invisible labor for exploration and artistic production.
